So it’s that time of year again. After the big first tier shows, like the LA auto show, and Frankfurt, and SEMA, come the stragglers. The second tier and smaller shows that get little, if any, coverage. One of these little gems is the San Diego show at the convention center. I go yearly, because it’s the closest and even though a lot of the stuff has already been shown elsewhere, its easy to forget how much more impressive it is to actually SEE and FEEL and SIT in these cars than it is to see a few pictures or a video. Now don’t get me wrong, a lot of people just cant find the time or the money to travel and visit these things, so I’m here to let you guys in on some of the smaller stuff every so often with my running blog; Auto Adventures with Dr. VW.

Obviously the San Diego Auto show hasn’t started yet, but when it does you can be sure I’ll be there to cover the stuff that sometimes just doesn’t make it into the final cut. I remember two years ago there was a super rad section on the evolution of the Datsun/Nissan Z series cars. Let me tell you, those cars were definitely not at the LA Auto show! It’s this sort of thing that gets bumped aside when all the flash and glam is focused on the new stuff! So since this is my first post, I’ll tell you a little about myself.

I love cars. Obviously. But I also love to take road trips, and go yard hunting; something about walking the long aisles around CA that are heaped with wrecked and rusted cars, some sitting since the 40’s, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

As my name implies, I’m a VW enthusiast, but I try not to play favorites. I love just about every car that drives (even the Yugo has a special place in my heart). To keep myself from rambling on and on, I’ll just say that you can expect Dr. VW to bring you Auto Adventures from time to time. From the smaller shows to interesting road trips to maybe a funky burrito stand I stopped at to change the oil, if it’s a good story, you’ll here it first here.
