Got a X? Going to make more power? Well, you’re in luck. Anticipating the need for power hungry Evo X GSR’s, Advanced Clutch Technology has released new clutch kits to feed that need.
ACT’s new clutch kit for the Evo X feature a Heavy Duty Pressure Plate or Xtreme Pressure Plate that incorporates hardened diaphragm fingers for decreased wear and provides a 42% increase in clamp force over the stock unit on the HD Pressure Plate and 58% increase over stock with the XT Pressure Plate.
The ACT Street Clutch Kit combines the Heavy Duty Pressure Plate or Xtreme Pressure Plate and a Performance Organic Disc, a disc that features special performance organic friction materials to withstand increased heat and abuse, steel backed linings for high burst strength and modifications engineered for quicker shifting. The ACT Street Clutch Kit provides a moderate and consistent pedal feel, smooth engagement, significantly improved durability and increases the torque capacity to 512 ft. lbs. for the Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and 573 ft. lbs. for the Xtrem Pressure Plate
ACT Race Clutch Kits will hold 655 ft. lbs. of torque with the Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and 734 ft. lbs. with the Xtreme Pressure Plate. Metallic Ceramic Xtreme Discs are available in 4 and 6 puck sprung and un-sprung hub designs and are very durable while allowing for quick shifting. The Xtreme Discs are design for high power engines and is recommended for track use only.

As we anticipate finally getting our hands on the Evo X for testing - believe me when this author tells you… WebRidesTV.com’s feature profile will be lightyears ahead of all those other “video sites” - Mitsubishi Motors North America suggested we check out the regular Lancer GT-S first. Why you ask? Apparently, the Lancer shares the same chassis as the new Evo X. As a result, the Lancer’s structural rigidity is far greater than even the CT9A Evo IX / VIII / VII. This leads to sharper steering, better cornering transition and a more efficient chassis. Efficient in the sense that the powerplant and suspension work to drive the car forward and keep the wheels planted to the ground, respectively, than waste that kinetic energy in bending and twisting the chassis.

There it is. It’s Honda Racing F1’s new car for the 2008 Formula 1 season. Gone is the tree-hugging livery of the RA107, replaced with this semi-tree-hugging version.
2007 was a dismal year for this squad. They regularly finished behind Super Aguri F1, which is essentially their bastard child team with an older chassis (read: RA106). For a team that finished high in the Constructor’s Championship in 2006 with regular podium finishes, it was a year to forget. Both Jensen Button and Rubens Barrichello deserved a better car, as they are both capable of winning points at every race.
So here’s to better performance in 2008. Ross Brawn’s arrival at the squad should help things and with engine development at a freeze in line with the FIA mandate - which makes absolutely no sense to this author - aero is going to be more important than ever to turn up the wick in performance.

We met the gang from Jig-A-Loo in Las Vegas at SEMA 2007 and they showed us this curiously named product. It’s a water repellent lubricant in the same vain as WD-40, but apprently offers benefits beyond the “40.” They sent us a few boxes of the stuff, a box of which was distributed to some shops in the area for some testing. Well, the results are in.
Apparently, it’s been a big hit. The silicone-based lubricant has been working well for loosening tight nuts (seriously, no pun intended) and stopping those common squeaks that annoy the hell out of everyone. This author has been using it at different times on Project Evo and it has performed flawlessly as claimed. Overall, it’s a good product that might replace the good old standby “40″ we’re so used to.
The Jig-A-Loo gang is based out of Canada (eh?!) and producing some good stuff. Check it out at your local automotive store. If they don’t stock it, ask for it. You can thank us later.

Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT), the fine purveyor of transmission goodies, has released new SFI-certified clutch kits for GM 5.7L LS1 and 6.0L applications. Available starting January 2008, HKS USA offers a new camshaft set for the 2003-2006 Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35C non rev-up VQ35DE Engine. On the heels of the release of the HKS Nissan 350Z Turbocharger Set-Up Kit for the VQ35DE Engine, these bumpsticks are designed to provide improved power output and durability. The camshafts have been designed with seamless compatibility with Nissan’s variable valve timing system.

With the inhaling end of things buttoned up, it came time to open up the exhaust system. Although the stock exhaust system on the Project Evo is far better than those found on the majority of vehicles out there, it still possesses the same restrictive qualities. Whether it’s piping that constantly kinks back and forth or pinched at bends (not mandrel bent like performance systems, in which the bends are created in a way that preserves the inner diameter of the piping), it isn’t the most efficient lay out possible.
