Hello Web Riders, Big_Blocker here once again to bring you all a look at a car that most of you have never heard of, the 1970 Chrysler 300-Hurst or 300-H for short. Anyone who knows anything about muscle cars knows that most muscle cars rolled on a mid-sized chassis or were even smaller and known as “pony cars”, like the Ford Mustang. However, by the time the year 1970 rolled around and customers of all income brackets were demanding high performance, Chrysler took a page out of their 1955 playbook and made a full-size muscle car.

Chrysler made a name for itself in the realm of full-size high performance in the year 1955 with the introduction of the 300-C. The “C” stood for Coupe and the 300 stood for the amount of horsepower the 331 Hemi made. The car was built for high speeds and turned many heads when it topped out at the “Flying Mile” at 127.58 miles per hour and did well in racing, dominating the Daytona field that year. This racing image would fade out into the mid-1960’s as Chrysler shifted the 300 towards a more luxury oriented image. However, for the 1970 model year, Chrysler would pull out all the stops.

In order to re-introduce a classic car to a younger generation that demanded all around performance, Chrysler teamed with George Hurst, a man who had made a name for himself in manufacturing some of the finest performance shifters in the world. To make the new car go Chrysler took a 375 horsepower 440 TNT V8 and lowered it between the wide frame rails of the newly designed 300. Being 1 inch longer than a Ford Excursion, it came as a surprise when the land barge scampered from zero to sixty in 7.1 seconds. Even though it had a performance oriented image, the 300-H still offered the same luxury of past 300’s, including: power seats, climate control, cruise control, leather interior, power locks, power windows and floor mounted radio scanner. These cars are rare, perhaps due to their sticker price (over $5,000) and only 485 were ever produced. If you manage to see one, try to appreciate it for what it is: full-size muscle.

Big_Blocker wishing everyone a Happy 4th of July. For more pictures of the 300-H check out the gallery.
