Howdy Webriders! Dr. VW here for your weekly dose of foreign fridays!  As I’m sure you all know, the big news around the world today is the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Thanks to the games, lots of other international news (like the war that just erupted between Georgia and Russia) is getting short shrift, but the real travesty is that… there are no motor sports at the Olympic Games! Hit the jump to read why we  should add motor sports to the Olympics!

Because we’re good at it.

There I said it. Americans have a long history and tradition of driving, customizing, and racing anything with wheels. We started the automotive revolution. Cars are in our blood. We would whoop every country hands down! Rally racing, motocross, the list goes on and on. We would of course, have to restrict the wide world of motor sports to a few events for the Olympics, but which ones?

Offroad Rally Racing. Something along the lines of the Baja 1000 and Dakar. Lots of countries already participate (or participatED in the case of Dakar) in similar events, and so a large pool of ready and willing athletes would be available to compete. Motocross and other motorcycle sports would likewise draw a huge crowd.

Naysayers might point out that the Olympics are about personal athleticism in “traditional” sports, however the Olympics do have Sailing, Rowing, and Cycling, which require just as much effort, concentration, and personal fitness as a long distance Rally Race through a desert. Besides… with events like Trampoline… who can really argue against us?

Well thats all for this week Webriders, be sure to check into the forums and cast your vote and make YOUR suggestions for Olympic events! This is Dr. VW– out.
