Impressions of the new Acura TL have already found their way online at Edmunds. Pictures of the car show a completely redesigned car that bears almost no resemblence to the model it replaced. The new TL seems to have an extremely high beltline, even when comparing to other new luxury cars such as the Mercedes Benz S Class and the Cadillac CTS series (looking at the technical stats reveal that this car is actually as big as the current generation RL). Perhaps consumers gravitate towards cars with high beltlines because they “seem” more comfortable and safer.
Front shots of this car are somewhat awkward to look at. The ratio between the size of the front bumper/grill area and the size of the headlights seem to be way off. The front end is massive and the headlights look like they belong on a car of much smaller proportions. The rear of the car has a very interesting look, with a design that has the rear bumper, lights, and the trunk lid all culminating in one point in the middle of the rear bumper. Dual mufflers end in four square-ish tips.
Under the hood lies a 3.7 V6 engine that puts out 305 horsepower to all four wheels through Acura’s SH-AWD system. This puts it right in line with its main competitors such as the BMW 3 Series, and the Mercedes Benz C Class. Stick enthusiasts will have to wait till 2010 for proper manual transmission model, which will come with the new Type S varient.
