Instead of coming out with an even higher powered Viper to compete against the ZR-1, Chrysler has decided to sell it. Numerous small companies have been reportedly interested in a deal to aquire the Viper. The two seater has been known for its heavy pricetag, huge horsepower/torque output, and its tendency to bite unsuspecting/novice drivers by oversteering into ditches.

Why would Chrysler sell this brand unless they thought the end was coming? This is the automotive company equivalent of going to the local pawn shop and selling your Rolex. Without the Viper, the brand loses a big chunk of its identity – halo cars exist for a reason.

While I personally don’t care too much for the company, the Viper has been one of my favorite cars since I was a little kid. It’s probably one of the only reasons that I would set foot in a Chrysler brand showroom (so the Viper has been doing its job!) and I imagine there are many out there that are in the same position as me. The unique exhaust note, exotic looks, and ridiculous power of the car really make it just a little better than the Corvette in my opinion. While the Corvette might match the Viper in some performance figures, it will never be able to compete with the Viper at turning heads.

Hopefully Chrysler will reconsider selling off their most praised son and simply recruit another company’s help. Chevrolet used to do this with the Camaro SS (with SLP), and Mercedes did this with the SLR (with McLaren) and both of those cars were definately changed for the better.
