At a glance, I thought Lamborghini had decided to enter the super lightweight sportscar market. The loud orange paint, exotic sounding name, and mid engine supercar shape could trick anyone into thinking it is a product of an Italian car company; but no, this car has its roots in Mexico! This svelte racer debuted at the 2008 British Auto show and is destined to be released sometime before summer 2009 – only in Europe though (pricing has been set somewhere under £40,000). Read More >>

After months of spectulation, Nissan has finally given enthusiasts a peek at their next big car, the 370Z. While there have been spyshots (going around the Nurburgring!) floating around the net for a while now, it was clad in camoflauge test car gear and the interior was still a mystery. The two exterior shots show off some of the major changes that were done to the exterior styling. While not too many fans are surprised at the new crazy headlights borrowed from the Nissan Maxima, not too many people expected to see the same design used for the taillights. It looks pretty good though, there are only so many ways to design lamps on a car and at least Nissan is actually doing something very different from previous designs. Read More >>

2025 to be exact. The 5th Annual LA Auto Show Design Challenge is the birthplace of many futuristic looking car drawings and fancy technology names such as “Electro Mechanic Brake System” and “Omnidirectional Wheels”. All the entries in this challenge have been designed with one theme in mind, what will motorsports look like in the year 2025? Entries cover a wide range of competitive driving (all with an emphasize on “green” driving), from F1 style tarmac races to automotive triathalon styled events that cover land, sea, and air. The amount of thought that went into each of these cars is mind boggling; each car has its own unique theme and the designers have laid out plans for how it will work. For example, the GM Chaparral Volt uses gravity, wind, and sunlight to generate its own movement power; the Audi R25 can be charged while moving through wireless electricity zones. Read More >>

I made a blog post a couple days back about GM and their stable of cool cars which may have been too optimstic, or too soon – as GM has just revealed the fate of two of their biggest superstars, the Pontiac G8 and Pontiac Solstice. While these two cars have been applauded by enthusiasts for being a huge part of the force that will turn GM’s reputation for making cheap American cars around, the people at the top have decided that the company will do better without them. The “MyKey” is a newly announced system from Ford that will be another tool that parents can use against their freshly licensed teenagers. While most parents must lecture their children on the importance of staying within speed limits, Ford owners will have the option of just programming their keys to impose a number of restrictions on the way a car drives. Those that have kept up with the news in the automotive world will know that this rarely works, as we’re regularly presented with stories where the son takes out dad’s prized sportscar and wads it up – such as the BMW M5 that went off a runway in Florida, or that R34 Skyline that went into a ditch somewhere in Australia.
