The Paris Motor Show has been pretty slow this year, without any major new cars or technology being showcased. However, Aston Martin decided to put its new supercar, the One-77, on display… at least some of it. While it seems like the car was completed and ready to be unveiled, they decided to put the car under a striped car cover with only the front headlight, grille, front fender, and a wheel sticking out.
Not much is known about this car except that it will be powered by a hand built Aston Martin V12 engine that will kick out a horsepower figure well into the 700’s. The displacement has been rumored to range from 7.0 liters to 7.3 liters - the power to displacment ratio for such a large engine is impressive, if they do not go with forced induction. Another car with similar displacement ratios (naturally aspirated) is the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, with a 6.5 Liter V12 engine producing 640 horsepower. The One-77 also boasts an all aluminum and carbon fiber chassis, which will run to 60 MPH in just 3.5 seconds and top out well over 200 MPH.
I’m not too sure yet about the origins of the “One-77″ designation at the moment but I do know that the production number of this car will be set at exactly 77 cars, which would explain the second part. If I had to guess at the first, I would say that the pricetag of £1 million would be the reason behind it - its almost as if they are making fun of their own insane pricing on this thing (converted to American dollars, it comes out to around $1,830,000 BEFORE taxes and such).
While I would not be surprised if every single one of the 77 have already been purchased, I wonder what is their justification behind the asking price? What feats of engineering has Aston Martin done with the One-77? While Bugatti created a car that set the bar for top speed on a production car (in a package that is supposedly very refined), what has Aston done?
Well… theres only gonna be 77! Sweeeeeet
