MOPAR fans rejoice for Dodge has released pictures of 2 of the three Challenger Concepts for the SEMA show! Designated the Challenger SRT10 and Challenger Targa these monsters are powered by different powerplants but both achieve mind-blowing performance. The boys over at Dodge pulled out all the stops when tricking out the Challenger for SEMA. They took two completely different looks at performance and created two very different cars that give high horse performance in their own way. Lets take a look at each one shall we…
The Challenger SRT10 is a brute of a car powered by the V10 borrowed from the Viper. The 8.4 L monster motor makes 600 horsepower and 560 pound feet of torque. The all-aluminum engine is crowned with a vintage Shaker hood scoop that could be found on any 1970 Challenger or Cuda with the aforementioned option ordered. I for one would squeal like a little girl if I were sitting in the driver’s seat watching the hood scoop rattle as I mashed the throttle…but this is not about me, sadly. Other SRT accents include a carbon fiber deck lid and hood scoop along with that beautiful Tornado Red paint job.
Unlike the insane displacement of the SRT10, the Challenger Targa was built with a racing-inspired theme, in fact the very name Targa comes from a famous road race in Newfoundland. Originally given the name Samantha, this Challenger rolled off the assembly line as a Challenger drag race package car but received quite a bit of treatment from the MOPAR team. The 392 cube V8 MOPAR crate engine powers this beast and makes 540 horsepower and 490 pound feet of torque. A Tremtec 6-speed manual gearbox transmits that power to a modified rear end and all that American iron is stopped by a beefy set of Stop-Tech brakes. As for the suspension components, MOPAR went to the tried and true system developed by KW that is currently used on the Viper ACR (yes that is the Viper ACR that just broke the Nurburgring lap record for production cars). The car is rounded out by a beautiful snake skin green paint and several aero-mods that include a modified front spoiler for downforce.
Hope you all are as excited as I am for these two beast to hit the show circuit, and be sure to check out the newest Muscle Car of the Week. Big_Blocker out.
