Lamborghini’s plan to unveil their four door sedan was hampered by an over excited French website, which has leaked information and pictures of the new Lamborghini concept – The Estoque. This Lambo sedan looks like it will be competing with other “practical” exotic cars such as the Bentley Continental, Maserati Quattroporte, or the upcoming Porsche sedan.
The aggressive front end definitely borrows a lot from the Reventon, whereas the rear looks completely new for the Lamborghini brand. However, there have been many complaints floating around on messageboards that have accused the concept of having rear taillights that resembles retro styled American musclecars such as the Challenger and quarter panels that look like they came off the Chevrolet Camaro.
While I do see the slight resemblence, people should realize that there are only so many ways to shape a rear fender and a taillight. With the hundreds of car models that are on the market, new concepts are bound to have parts that (slightly) resemble others – sometimes I wonder if people like complaining for the sake of complaining?? I can’t remember the last time I saw a thread on a car forum that had introduced a new car and was followed up with posts that mostly praised the looks of the new car.
Back on topic – The Estoque does not look as outrageous as a Lamborghini really should be but I can understand the need for the company to fill the niche of “rich and NOT ostentatious”. If they can steal a couple thousand customers from say… BMW (the M5), that will just mean more money towards development of even more ridiculous supercars than before.
I only skimmed through the press release but I believe that it will either have a multitude of drivetrains available, or they simply have not decided yet. It could range from the V10 from the Gallardo LP560-4 to a V8 derived from the V10 (with a turbocharger) or a disel setup. Stay tuned tomorrow for more pictures and info on ths car.
Last note: As some of you may already know – “Murcielago” is named after a famous fighting bull that just would not die and “Gallardo” is named after a breed of bulls.
“Estoque” is the sword that the bullfighter will use against the bull. I wonder if this naming scheme implies anything…
