Purchaze, an German online sneaker retailer, drew inspiration from the Porsche GT3 RS and created 4 pairs of special edition Nike Air Max Light GT3 RS sneakers. While these Nikes aren’t as fast as as Porsche, they’re even rarer. Special sets of these sneakers will be worn by Porsche’s racing crew during events this year. Sneaker companies have made automotive-inspired kicks before. Adidas and Goodyear produced racing shoes a few years back. Puma and Ferrari had a similar pact and created apparel to go along with the Ferrari-branded Puma shoes. Click the link for more the whole.

Most car nuts are familiar with the the two giant Porsche tuners, Gemballa and Techart, but might not have heard too much about 9FF until very recently. They are a shop that specializes in creating pumped up versions of everything that Porsche has for sale; they were created in 2001 and are based out of Dortmund, Germany. Going to their website yields a large number of pre-configured vehicles that should be enough for anyone short of a professional driver, but they are open to customization and further modification to create the exact car that is demanded by the buyer. Howdy Webriders! Dr. VW here with a San Diego Auto Show update! With the official start of the show beginning today, I figured it’d be worth giving you all a rundown of what there is to see and do aside from the various exhibits. Last year the upper ballroom had an expo on aftermarket products as well as some sensational club exhibits. They will of course be making a return this year, but the other activities are new in a lot of ways. Hit the jump to find out what they are! Read More >>

In his column in the Times, Clarkson recently examined a couple of contenders for his Car of the Year choice and eventually chose a winner: The Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1. It beat out other new cars like the BMW X6, Audi RS6, Nissan GT-R, Rolls Royce Drophead Phantom, and a couple of others. Why was this car chosen over the others? Why is it such a surprise that he chose an American muscle car over a more sophisticated offering from Europe? Read More >>

What’s the worst thing you’ve encountered when returning to your safely parked vehicle? A bitter ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend? An unfortunate relocation? A layer of bird droppings? How about a polar bear? A surveyor in Barrow, Alaska returned to his parked truck only to find a polar bear awaiting his return. While cases of human deaths resulting from polar bear attacks is quite rare (especially outside of Alaska), polar bears are the only species of bear to be known to actively hunt humans. The man (pictured above) resorts to running around the SUV and his red truck parked to the left to avoid being a turned into an afternoon snack. Good thing he wasn’t driving a Lamborghini. Imagine having to climb into that quickly without being eaten. Check out the full story with more pictures on Mail Online.

I briefly mentioned the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe in a blog post yesterday which was about a special version of the Chevrolet Camaro that is completely stripped down. This is arguably one of the most badass cars to ever roll out of a factory in Detroit; it can’t even be purchased by anyone with money, they ask that you submit a resume with your racing achievements in order to be considered. (airbags not included)
Surprisingly, Chevrolet is not asking for more money in their latest press release; they have announced that they will sell the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro in a “body in white” configuration that will save weekend racers a lot of time and money for their dedicated racecar projects. While manufacturers have offered stripped down packages before such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS, I’ve never seen anything like this available to the public. What the $7,000 pricetag gets you is the Camaro frame, body panels (which includes the trunk, all fenders, hood, front and rear valences) , floor pan, and chassis rails. Read More >>

It is no question that that Big Three did not help themselves out in the midst of the financial crisis and most of us know they are responsible for a good portion of the damage done to the auto industry. Poor decision making by executives and erratic and unnecessary spending has put domestic automakers in a hole of epic proportions. But what about the United Autoworkers Union? Surely they are to blame as well…Right? Yes, they are and when you read the rest of this post you will understand why. Read More >>

Howdy Webriders! Dr. VW here with a sad story to report. It seems that no matter what GM tries to do to save itself, the world seems to be conspiring against it. And the world certainly seems to be bound and determined to refrain from throwing the poor guys at GM a bone. If it’s not ball breaking tactics of the UAW, the tanking economy, or more advanced eco-friendly cars from competitors, then it’s the suppliers flaking out on your best shot out of the sand pit. Hit the jump to find out why the Camaro might not be ready to step up in time to save GM. Read More >>
