The news seems to be bad for all automakers this holiday season as Toyota has just announced a recall of 120,000 vehicles in China due to problems with the steering system that have the Japanese automaker hastening to appease Chinese authorities.
The problem with the steering system is rooted to possible electrical failures that may cause the power steering system to fail. The models affected include the Toyota Crown and Reiz (pictured above) made from 05 to 06 as well as some Lexus models produced from 04 to 06. This recall, prompted by the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has put even more unwanted pressure on the Japanese automaker whose sales have dropped dramatically across the board this year. Worldwide sales are down almost 22% in November and the company is operating in the red for the first time in over 60 years.
Who knows how bad this global economic slowdown will be for automakers everywhere or how long it will last, however, with government aid coming to domestic automakers there may be some hope…I certainly pray for it. Big_Blocker out.
