Check out this car… the Aspid SuperSport. It sure is ugly. Not only does it have these ridiculous looking headlight stalks, it lacks all the sexy curves that we love on our sports cars, like the Aston Martin DBS. Looking at the front of the car reminds me of a praying mantis and not in a good way, or possibly a slug with its tentacle eyes. The rest of the car has me in wonder because of how blatantly it looks like a shoe; while some cars such as the BMW Z3 Coupe has been named the “clownshoe” by affectionate fans, it can’t hold a candle to the Aspid’s ability to mimic footwear. However, if we are to look past its exterior looks (like we were taught in elementary school) and into its drivetrain and suspension, we are to discover a machine that means business on tracks and canyon roads.
Yeah, this is actually one of the fastest cars to ever be produced, so that will probably help it redeem itself in the eyes of auto enthusiasts everywhere. It has a zero to sixty time of just 2.8 seconds, zero to hundred time of less than 6.0 seconds, which is faster than the zero to sixty time of most production cars out there! It’s solid braking system is able to haul this thing down from 100 MPH in approximately 3 seconds and its able to claim a skidpad rating of 1.6 G’s.
The motivating power for the Aspid comes from the high revving F20C engine from the Honda S2000; except it has forced induction via a supercharger system. Combined with beefed up internals, this 9000 RPM screamer of a motor puts out somewhere around 400 horsepower. Initially that does not seem like enough power to make this thing run with the best of supercars but its featherweight weight class enables it to make the most of every horsepower. You can see form the exterior pictures that a large portion of the body cladding is made of carbon fiber; weight reduction is such an issue with the designers that they even have a proprietary braking rotor design that is designed to maximize weight reduction.
This isn’t like other stripped out weekend racer “production cars” such as the Ariel Atom. Step through the scissor doors into the cockpit, one will actually find a selection of luxury items that make this car a pleasure to drive for more than 30 minutes at a time. It has features like a touch screen display that controls just about every bit of suspension activity that I know of and some that I never heard about! GPS navigation gives instructions while passengers can enjoy on board wifi, all while sitting in the comfort of an automatically controlled climate.
So whats the deal with this car anyways? Beat your friends around the track in their stripped out race cars… while in total comfort!
