Howdy Webriders! Dr. VW here with Cadillac’s WTF. What is the WTF? Hit the jump to find out WTF is up with the Cadillac WTF.

I present to you… the WTF!

Otherwise known as the World Thorium Fuel Concept. What is it exactly? Well it looks like Cadillac is going to be leading the way with nuclear powered cars. Yeah… you read that right. Details are scarce, and what little there is you can find here. What can we infer from the shots? Looks like a two seater, along with advanced wheel, suspension, and drive train components. However all of those pale in comparison to the technological elephant in the room… the rear mounted nuclear reactor.

Thorium, the T in WTF, is element 90 on the periodic table and as a slightly radioactive element it can be substituted for Uranium. It apparently is “cleaner” than uranium as well, and is found naturally on Earth. Is it green? Could be, with nearly limitless amounts of energy being produced from relatively low amounts of Thorium. What that means is that the engine/drive train could effectively outlast the rest of the car (and probably more than a few generations of drivers!), meaning you could (theoretically) transfer the reactor to your next car, since it would continue producing energy. An interesting, if “out there” concept to say the least. My question is how I keep myself from getting cancer or losing my hair… and how on earth do you cool the thing? Last I heard… nuclear reactions needed a serious heat sink. The thought is intriguing however, and perhaps one day we’ll skip hydrogen altogether and go nuclear! The FCX Clarity officially has competition.

That’s all for tonight webriders… enjoy the pictures. Dr. VW– out.
