With the recently approved government loan given to Chrysler, it appears as though the company’s future is still unsure. Complaints have been reported from Chrysler that the loan given this time around is not as strong or adequate as the loan that was given in 1979.
What Chrysler reproduced in 1979 saved the company from an almost surefire bankruptcy. They introduced one of my favorite cars, the K-car and the mini-van (which was a modified K-car itself). Little known fact that the minivan was design by Lee Lococca, who helped design the Ford Mustang.
Chrysler at this time is not geared to making small compact cars, and doesn’t hope to be in the future. After the end of the K-car in the mid 90’s, they focused on sedans and SUV’s; this lack of foresight on Chryslers is looking to be the company’s downfall. In a stretch to capture the public, they have announced a new electric vehicle and are talking with Nissan to market their compact cars under the Chrysler badge.

Chrysler has been in business for over 75 years; even though it hasn’t been the same Chrysler our parents have known and loved for 25 years. This company has been plagued with switching hands and being split up and bought out for quite some time. Unless they figure out some cheap, reliable vehicle that solves quite a few woes and problems of a consumer, I for one can not see how Chrysler will survive this economic mess.
