2009 NASCAR Sprint Media Tour

NASCAR lovers will be delighted to hear that Ford Racing, partnered with Roush Yates has developed a new racing engine for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for use next season. It is named the FR9 and for more details you must read on.

According to Ford, for the last 17 years they have used basically the same engine base for NASCAR applications. This new powerplant is the first NASCAR-purposed engine to ever come out of Ford, however readers of Muscle Car of the Week will know this isn’t true, and if you want to read about it you must read my post. As most previous NASCAR race engines from Ford were based on the tried-and-true 351 Windsor V8, engineers claim the new FR9 is much different. Three major factors make the FR9 quite unique from its grandfather engine. A re-worked cooling system allows NASCAR teams to add more tape to the front of the car to improve downforce. The valve-train has been completely redone allowing for higher and more reliable horsepower. Thirdly, the very structure of the block has been re-engineered making assembly and maintenance easier.

As with all racing engines, power is king, just look at the Hemi. Ford is definitley taking this to heart and although their new engine is still undergoing testing, look for it to be on the track winning races very soon.

  1. [...] at the bit for some punk to start up a chase… just so I could use my training. Think about NASCAR, off road Dakar, and illegal street races all rolled into one adrenaline fueled battle against the [...]

  2. it’s about time. I’m tired of Chevy dominating the nascar seen. I have even got tired of watching because chevy is 2 to 1 over us blue oval fans.

  3. I’ve heard HENDRICK until I don’t even watch nascar anymore. I’M guessing if GM don’t dominate THERE WILL BE RULE CHANGES.

  4. Original launch date was supposed to have been middle of the 2009 season. Must be having some real problems with the motor. Too bad. Ford hasn’t been competitive all season.

  5. Just wondering if anyone has heard about a debut date for the engine? Roush and yates should have that engine on the track for testing in all the cars that didn’t make the chase. They need to be out kicking bowtie butt.

  6. Its about time they let ford do something. Now they btter lookout . go ford number 1

  7. I’m with Jim and Ronnie. It doesn’t matter what engine Ford (or anyone else) rolls out. NASCAR is rigged for GM (read:Chevy) to win, race after race, season after season. The most sweeping rule changes have occurred after each season that a Ford driver has won the cup. And after Ford’s last audacious act of winning 2 cups in a row, NASCAR made everyone run and identical car (based, surprise, on a Hendrick chevy) ridiculously called a COT. I was a huge NASCAR fan for 30 years, but quit watching years ago when they stopped even trying to hide their bias. If chevy is winning, NASCAR is grinning. If not, you get the COT.
