Howdy Webriders! Dr. VW here with quite possibly the greatest story of the year. So far anyway. Volkswagen has always been synonomous with excellence, but today I can proudly say that Volkswagen has proven it is still a leader in quality and performance. Hit the jump to see what VW has won!

The Dakar Rally Race! 1st and 2nd place respectively, went to Volkswagen and its two Touareg teams.  A few firsts here, including the first Dakar race won by diesel power in the car class, and the highest finishing American ever. Even more exciting was the new locale, having moved from Africa to South America. The full press release can be found here; and we at webrides congratulate both of the winning VW teams on a job well done. Talk about a rough ride! With temperatures ranging between 104 degrees and well below freezing, as well as jaunts over the Andes, across the desert dunes, and the rocky flats, the Touareg proved to an exceptionally reliable workhorse, proving that VW can still best the competition in the real world. Sitting behind the wheel though is where the real test is. Not just anyone can hop into a rally ready car and expect to finish the race- it takes god like skills and stamina. One day perhaps, I shall be one of those drivers. Congratulations once again, and let it be known that Volkswagen rules Dakar!
