Fans have been salivating about the Hyundai Genesis for months now, without any solid information on the pricetag. During the Chicago Auto Show, they announced that the base level Genesis Coupe will start at $22,000 for the base model. With the base model, owners will get the 2.0 liter turbocharged inline four engine with a 210 horsepower rating. Next up the chain is the trim level powered by a 3.8 liter V6 with a little over 300 horsepower, for $25,000. This positions the Genesis coupe at a powerful position to steal away potential buyers that have been eyeing other six cylinder coupes like the Infiniti G37 and the BMW 3 Series.

Depending on the robustness of the turbo four engine, I get the feeling that it will be taking up the lion’s share of sales because of its lower price and fun factor (arguably higher!) due to its forced induction powerplant.  Mated to the available six speed transmission and rear wheel drive power output, it is something that has not been done since the Nissan Silvia (and never in the US!); these things will be making way into high school parking lot in droves.

Speaking of fun factor, there will be a “track” level trim which features big Brembo brakes, 19 inch wheels to clear those calipers, an LSD, supportive leather/suede seats, rear spoiler, HID’s, fog lights, and navigation. It’s basically a car enthusiast’s dream, already including most of the upgrades that are done first to a stock car. These goodies will be priced at an extra $3,700 and will be available for both inline 4 and V6 cars.

Those that plan to roll in comfort are also covered; there is a premium package that adds a sweet 10 speaker Infinity audio system, sun roof, navigation, and more goodies. All this is available for less than $3000.00 on top of the base coupe. Luxury for the V6 model will be the “Grand Touring” package which bumps up the final price to $27,500 (6 speed manual) which includes everything mentioned above AND a reverse warning system, fog lights, aluminum door sill covers, auto dimming and heated mirrors, heated seats, push button start, and more.

It’s nice to see that the six speed manual managed to find its way into every configuration possible. It also looks like they’ve done their homework as they are offering the track package with features that are actually conducive to improved performance, unlike other pseudo sporty models like the Corolla S. Just about every segment of the consumer range has been covered, from the die hard enthusiast that doesn’t want any unnecessary feature to the more laid back commuter that wants a fast car with a comfortable ride.
