The founder of a MMA themed clothing company passed away yesterday night in a car wreck which split his Ferrari 360 Coupe in half on impact; similar to the Ferrari Enzo wreck that happened not too long ago. Charles Lewis Jr, nicknamed “Mask”, was the founder of the “Tapout” clothing brand which can be seen on MMA competitors and fans all around the world. The incident happened around 1AM on Wednesday, March 11th.

Reports currently cover a wide range of possible stories, but it’s certain that the Ferrari was driving at a high rate of speed when it lost control, left the roadway, and collided with a streetlamp post. Lewis was declared to be dead at the scene but his female passenger was thrown clear of the wreck, suffering several broken bones.

Street racing is cited as the reason behind this crash; the other car involved was reported to be either a white Porsche 911 or a red 1977 Porsche. Either way, the other driver was picked up a couple blocks away and has been named as Jeffrey David Kirby; to top it all off, apparently he was intoxicated during the time of the crash.  The charges brought against him include gross vehicular manslaughter and his passenger has been charged with public intoxication.

It doesn’t seem fair to me that Kirby will be charged with gross vehicular manslaughter when his only part in this (allegedly) is racing alongside the Ferrari. Charge him with street racing and driving under the influence if they are able to prove it. It seems to me that they both must have realized that they were about to partake in an illegal street race and both had an equal chance of getting hurt.
