Thanks to Kevin Rose, founder of www.digg.com , we were able to check out pictures of the new Tesla Model S sedan a couple hours before the official unveiling which is set to take place at 12PM Pacific time. Just three pictures of the electric sports sedan were discovered on his Flickr account and were immediately spread around. The pictures only reveal the side profile, rear end, and interior, but it’s possible to have a pretty good idea of the overall look of the car based off them.

The back of the car looks very modern, yet free from any clutter that manages to find its way on to many late models; there is no spoiler, strange light placement, diffusers, or badging. A high trunk lid following into a tall beltline reminds me of a Lexus IS sedan, or possibly a Jaguar XF sedan. Looking at the side profile of the car again reminds me of a Lexus IS; I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to base the car on that chassis to save costs on R&D.

The picture of the interior is the most intriguing; an all digital dashboard mimicking an analogue gauge can be seen, as well an interesting center console design. Instead of the traditional design,  Tesla has opted for a center control area that is devoid of any moveable parts. It looks like a large touchscreen display will be used to control the radio, HVAC, navigation, and possibly more.

Pricing for the Model S was also revealed; it will be around $50,000 after the $7,000 incentive that the government offers for electric cars. Seems like I have been hearing about this car for years now, yet I have never seen one cruising around the streets. Tesla needs to hurry up and put hybrids like the Toyota Prius to shame.
