Bentley S2 Continental

All this talk about new Bentleys has got me thinking: I’ve never been a giant fan of the latest Bentley Continental GT. Why yes sir, 550 hp (and then 600 hp) from a twin-turbo W12 and AWD is a pretty neat trick, but the package never really struck me as being Bentley. Except for the profile, which is masterfully (albeit Germanicly) derived from the svelte S Bentley Continentals of the late 50s and 60s. And while my favorite Bentleys remain the Le Mans dominating cars that W.O. and Captain Babe Barnato actually put their hands on (like the Speed Six), they were kinda ugly. As Ettore Bugatti put it, they looked like “lorries.” The S1, S2 and S3 Continentals however, are all gorgeous. These are the two-door S-variants and they’re usually hnd built by folks like H.J. Muliner and James Young. In fact, the car above is a James Young design that started life as a 4-door. Mondo gorgeous, no?
