Fiat 128

Things are somehow starting to look up for Chrysler. First comes concessions from the concession-averse UAW and now some news that more and more Fiats are coming Stateside by way of Chrysler dealers. Everyone and their mother is fairly well convinced that the first such Fiat to roll off the boat will be the mega desirable Cinquecento. But, in the words of Yoda, there is another. Maybe. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Chrysler Dealers got a preview of what they’ll hopefully be selling in the years to come. Make the jump.

Aside from the very nice Jeep Grand Cherokee and a new Chrysler 300, they saw “a sporty little sedan.” And this sedan was a Fiat. The story is that Chrysler will be getting its hands on said sport little sedan’s chassis, but will then apply it’s own sheet metal. Hmmm. This sounds good on paper, but wasn’t the new Sebring/Avenger built off a Mitsubishi chassis and rebodied by Chrysler? Indeed they were. Still, there’s no way the Fiat chassis could be worse than the tortured Daimler/Mitsu JS platform that underpins the Sebring/Avenger. So, that’s a start, even if the soon to be redone Fiat (most likely a Brava) actually replaces the Neon in Chrysler’s lineup and not the harsh, bankruptcy inducing Sebring/Avenger. And for those wondering, you’re looking at a Fiat 128 Rally up above. [Source: WSJ via Autoblog]
