Ferrari is bringing the five year production span of the F430 to a close by auctioning off the rights to the last car that comes off the line. The winner not only gets to own a piece of automotive history, but will be supporting victims of the recent earthquake in Abruzzo, Italy. The auction is set to take place at RM Auction this Sunday, May 17th. Want to know more about this special edition Ferrari? Jump
The most striking feature of this car is the silver and gold paint job, which represents the colors of Aquila, one of the cities most affected by the earthquake. Ferrari’s Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, will also toss in a signed certificate and dedicated plate that commemorates the purpose of this car. But that’s not all. When the time comes, the owner will be flown out to Maranello to decide on the car’s final configuration which will include parts from Carrozzeria Scaglietti catalogue. If that name seems familiar, that’s because they have been involved in Ferrari customization in the past: they have their hand in the design of the F430 Scuderia and a special edition 612 Scaglietti.

The final F430 won’t receive any drivetrain changes and is still powered by a 4.3 liter V8 engine that revs to the moon and puts out 483 horsepower and 343 ft-lb of torque. Transmission type and other performance options will be left up to the lucky winner. I suppose it wouldn’t really be the last F430 if they started making changes under the hood right?
So what’s going to replace the F430? Rumors are indicating a small displacement increase to 4.5 liters which results in a power rating that’s in the 500s — more competitive with the Lambo LP560-4s of the world. A regenerative braking system (not quite like the one on your Toyota Prius) may also make it into the next generation mid-engine Ferrari. [Source: Channel 4]
