Everybody’s hot for Ford’s new Fiesta — and with good reason. Gas is creeping back up to $4 a gallon and displays of conspicuous wealth are about as en vogue as the Kardashians. Oh, and it’s one hell of a fine little car. In fact, yours truly has been recommending it to friends. And one of those friends sent me an email, asking which three of the ten options up top are most desirable. I began perusing the list, Sync’s pretty good, I kinda like that capless fuel filler and… what’s this? A turbo kit? A turbo kit!!! Jump.

Now, there’s been no official word from Ford, save for this: for the last little while Ford’s been claiming that fully 90% of their cars will feature EcoBoost by 2012. Now, you got to imagine that Ford will still be making Hybrids in 2012, right? And none of them are going to be EcoBoosted (Ford-speak for direct-injection + turbocharging). Therefor, it’s a pretty safe bet that that 90% is going to include the Fiesta — right? A little more inside baseball for you, Ford’s going to be introducing their EcoBoosted I4 sooner than later (we’d put our money on seeing it in the Fusion first).

The puzzle pieces almost, but not quite, adds up. See, Ford’s using some pretty sophisticated tech on their EcoBoosted engines. How special? All the turbos are water-cooled. And as decent as the Fiesta’s 1.6-liter Sigma engine is, it’s not direct-injectable. Doesn’t exactly sound like a “turbo kit,” does it? Especially as the word “kit” denotes “Let’s have a few beers and slap this puppy on in the driveway.” So then what’s the website talking about? Not totally sure, but I’d guess that Ford’s trying to gauge public sentiment as to how we all feel about turbos. And guess what? The turbo kit is the most popular option on the Fiesta’s web site. Color us not shocked. And excited as hell about a turbo’d Fiesta.
