BMW 335d

When was the last time you found a prestigious foreign automobile that was marked down by thousands of dollars? In addition to the Cash for Clunkers program, eligible consumers will now be able to get almost $5,300 off of a BMW 335d and $6,300 off of a BMW X5 xDrive35d. The BMW 335d is the diesel version of automaker’s most versatile vehicle. The 3-series is offered as a wagon, sedan, coupe and convertible. The diesel edition houses a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder turboengine and returns a NEDC-combined 35.1mpg. That’s better fuel economy than the best-selling Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. Because the BMW 335d starts under $45,000 MSRP, consumers can take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program to get up to $4,500 if they turn in a qualifying vehicle. BMW is knocking off an extra $4,500 as part of an Eco Credit, and the clean diesel is also eligible for another $900 tax credit. That means consumers can potentially save about $9,800 for the bare-bone 335d. The BMW X5 xDrive35d, on the other hand, has a base MSRP of $51,200, so you can forget nabbing any federal coin from the Cash for Clunkers program. Tax credits on the X5 xDrive35d can reach as high as $1,800. [Source: BMW USA and Popular Mechanics]
