As a shadetree restorer of V-dubs, it’s often interesting to see parts and systems on newer generations that clearly share their lineage with an older part or design. It’s fun — for a nerd like me anyway — to investigate the history of a part or a system. Where it came from, who designed it, what applications it was originally designed for, etc. I saw the movie Flash of Genius and was amazed both by the colored past of something as seemingly simple as the intermittent windshield wiper, as well as the engineering genius of the thing — a part that for all intents and purposes has changed very little since it was invented. Sure, refinements have certainly been made, but the system as a whole is basically exactly the same. The history of the headlight is analogous in some ways. Originating with horse drawn carriages and gradually evolving into the highly emotional fusion of glass and plastic that can utterly define a car. Like say the Audi R8 or Lexus LS600hL.
