Following strong sales of hybrid vehicles in June, Japan is now the world’s largest market for hybrid cars. With higher fuel costs and attractive government incentives, Japanese consumers purchased 30,000 hybrids last month compared to 26,205 hybrids purchased by American consumers. The government-regulated financial incentives make purchasing hybrids more attractive in Japan then here in the States. While the US has made strides to promote more economical passenger vehicles, providing tax incentives for plug-in hybrids pertains to a small consumer base because the number of plug-in options is extremely limited nonexistant.
