I love these cheesy countdowns. 10 Worst Pontiac Cars! 10 Greatest Muscle Cars! If you can imagine a category, it probably has its own list located somewhere on the interweb. When I came across a new one — the 10 worst automotive fads — I laughed and nodded until I got to the end. As I read I thought, surely, the one worst automotive fad of all time must appear on this authoritative list. But no. I reached the end without a single mention of the worst of the worst. It’s such a glaring omission that I thought I’d add it to the list, since it has definitely earned a spot (jump).

Huge spoilers and body kits!!!

Nothing is more obnoxious than these auto abortions. The fiberglass and bondo additions to countless import vehicles, with their ugly, awkward, ground scraping, ill fitting, and cheap looking pieces represent one fad I’m glad is dying out. There was a time when it seemed like every import was a Fast and Furious wannabe — now the good majority of body kits are subtle and better fitting trim as opposed to crappy facades that fit like clumpy makeup on an aging model. Sound off in the comment box if you believe you have other worthy fads to be added to the list. [Source: MSN Autos]

  1. Why is it that small-time auto blogs with intelligent commenters discussing things in a sophisticated manner struggle for legitimacy when large-scale news outlets which apparently attract a bunch of mouth-breathing, foil-hat wearing nutjobs get a free pass?

Seriously, go read the comments over there…if you can stand it.

  2. This sounds like a challenge!

  3. “We now have the technology which allows for the Hydrogen and Oxygen to be separated out of the intake air, properly re-combined to produce ample electrical current[not burned in a combustion engine, mind you], the electrical current of which powers up electrical motors located at each wheel of a vehicle.

The greedy near-sighted corporate elites will not let you have what you want. They’ll KILL you if you try to get around them to sell what you do have that works better then what they have. ”

    Pardon the intertubes speak, but:
    THERMODYNAMICS FAIL!

  4. WOW!

  5. nice. I wish whoever posted that comment would actually sit through a thermo class and realize just how insane that sounds. even if that sort of technology existed for such an application, the cost of it would rival a hypercar.

  6. Spoilers and chrome hub caps are a fad that never goes away. Add voice-activated GPS to the list.

  7. Spoilers do have their place– some cars actually need them to get the performance numbers they tout. But I do agree- the giant whale tails of the late 80’s early 90’s Porsches and the flimsy POS’s that get mounted on every ricer need to go. Chrome hubcaps aren’t a fad- they’re a classic twisted and overplayed to the point of cheesiness. Classic rides NEED chrome hubcaps. New cars do not.
