I’m so close! After months of preparation and research, I’m almost ready to mount the case to the engine stand and actually start building. As you can see from my older posts, things have changed and evolved over the last few months. Mainly my choice to go with DPR as opposed to all new parts from CB Performance. Hit the jump to see more Red Baron progress!

The parts from DPR Machine are beautiful- well worth the expense. Completely matched and balanced, I’m confident that this rig will keep the Baron on the streets for a long time. There’s something deeply satisfying about balanced and matched parts, so perfectly machined that they all go together in only one particular alignment and configuration, like the internals of a swiss watch. They’re shiny too.

The only parts remaining are the camshaft (said slowly like Megan Fox from Transformers 2), lifters, and piston/cylinder set. Remember — this is a stock build with D-jet fuel injection so no lumpy cams or exotic lifters here. I’ll be sticking to a new stock grind camshaft and lightened CB Performance lifters. A set of Mahle forged pistons and cylinders will round out the package, which I hope will result in a bullet proof long block. And for those who are REALLY interested in the Rise of the Red Baron, I can announce finally that I will be mating the entire assembly to a Rancho Performance Transaxle. Keep checking back — things are finally a-movin’!
