Battle!

Ten years ago, if you’d told me Ford had voluntarily lined up any iteration of the Taurus against the Audi A6, I would have politely asked how you conned the psych-ward guards into letting you out for the weekend. But that’s exactly what Ford has done, talking go-fast guru Tanner Foust into narrating the whole experience. So what do the specs look like? In the Blue Oval corner, the Taurus SHO packs a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. Curb weight is a silly 4,268 lbs. On the other side of the ring, the A6 4.2 FSI gets its punch from a 4.2-liter V8 with 350 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. Curb weight of the quad-ring is a comparable 4,211 lbs. The results are predictable, but you can hop the jump for a look yourself. Now the only question is, will people shopping for an A6 really cruise on over to the Ford dealer for some cross shopping? 1. Well, you gotta give credit where credit is due. The Taurus was obviously faster but I really think Ford should’ve given that car a new name! I dont care how fast it is or what it beats, its still a Ford Taurus…

  2. Why does the name bug you?

When the Taurus was launched it was one of the best selling cars of its day…

Then they tried to move away from the Taurus with the 500, and it tanked.

    • Well it doesnt help that I was raised in a Chevy family so anything Ford related bugs me. Maybe its because all my friends moms had a Taurus growing up and its just screamed rental car!

  3. This video is biaised and has been made by FORD. The Audi A6 does 0-60 nowhere near 6.9secs, it does it in 5.6secs which mean that the V8 Audi is faster than the Taurus SHO.

  4. Hmm. I’m not positive, but I think the A6 does it somewhere in the 6.5-second range. The S6 is a different story, though. That car is closer to the 5.6-seconds you mentioned.

  5. 2010 A6 according to AOA is 5.8 sec to 60mph, that’s faster than a SHO if you’re comparing V6 to V8. If you want to compare the top of the line tore-a$$ to a top of the line 6 model (S6 V10) that’s 5.1 sec vs. 6.07, the pendulum just swang the other way by 1 second. Fuel consumption is another story, but if you can afford the V10 (about 2 SHOs), you can afford the gas and you probably wouldn’t be considering a Ford.
