…seems to be looking up! While I was most surprised to have first heard this - they are indeed making huge leaps in improving the quality of their cars. They are trying hard to shake their stigma of making cars with parts bin interior (those switches on your 50k Corvette might be the same as a 15k Cobalt), lousy cornering, but decent engines that produce a lot of kick. Their hard work is especially evident in some of the new stuff that has been leaving their factories - the Cobalt SS, the Pontiac G8, the C6 Corvette, and a couple other hits. This is a lot more than I can say for Chrysler, which might actually merge with GM in the near future, but that is a topic for another blog post. Read the rest of this entry »
Yes - even more stuff on the GT-R! As more and more drivers get their hands on Nissan’s new flagship pseudo-supercar, marketed as having an off the chart bang to buck ratio, we’re finally getting a good idea about the reliability of the super advanced drivetrain (quite possibly its biggest selling point!). Nissan has estimated the 0-60 at a ridiculously low 3.2 seconds - because of the all wheel drive system and the built in launch control that can deliver maximum thrust off the line consistently. The Paris Motor Show has been pretty slow this year, without any major new cars or technology being showcased. However, Aston Martin decided to put its new supercar, the One-77, on display… at least some of it. While it seems like the car was completed and ready to be unveiled, they decided to put the car under a striped car cover with only the front headlight, grille, front fender, and a wheel sticking out. It looks exactly as everyone expected it to look - a shorter IS250 with a retractable hardtop. Simplicity is good and it looks like Lexus did a fine job of removing the roof and rear doors off one of their best selling models. Read the rest of this entry »
Lamborghini’s plan to unveil their four door sedan was hampered by an over excited French website, which has leaked information and pictures of the new Lamborghini concept - The Estoque. This Lambo sedan looks like it will be competing with other “practical” exotic cars such as the Bentley Continental, Maserati Quattroporte, or the upcoming Porsche sedan. As some of you may already have heard, Chrysler has staked its claim in the all green car market by announcing its plan to roll out a whole lineup of vehicles with electric only powertrains. It is comprised of an electric version of a Chrysler Minivan, Jeep Wrangler, and the Dodge EV. While the other two do have their merits, the EV was by far the most interesting one due to its proposed sportiness as well as the novelty of being its own car. Read the rest of this entry »
Mazda’s four seat suicide door sports car has usually taken the backseat to its closest rivals (such as the 350z) due to a myriad of reasons such as the less than stellar gas mileage, questionable reliability, and less than spectacular power in a straight line. However, it still has a stronghold over the market segment that consists of die hard rotary lovers and to a lesser extent, the autocross/canyon driving crowd. Fans of the RX8 will always bring up the razor sharp handling and superior driving feel, which they say will help the 8 leave any competitor in the dust when it comes to the turns. We’ve been hearing news about the Chevrolet Volt for almost two years now and today we finally get to see real pictures of the car! Along with some more concept photos (updated), a close to production version of the Volt was shown to the public. It certainly doesn’t look anything like the concept pictures that we’ve all been looking at, but it doesn’t look too shabby at all. Many have commented on its resemblance to the Acura TSX, which may not be such a bad thing. Read the rest of this entry »
For a lucky few people anyways. Luckily for them, the Bugatti Veyron GT has just been unveiled along with some more jaw dropping performance specifications. This time around, the Veyron will be packing 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 ft-lbs of torque. Also, it will be featuring modified aerodynamics that somehow has improved even on the original’s. Ford has just released some more info on its upcoming hot hatch, the 2009 Ford Focus RS. It will back up its super agressive looks with a Duratec 2.5 liter turbocharged engine. This motor will produce 300 horsepower and 325 ft-lbs of twist. This should propell the Focus to 60 MPH in less than six seconds. Top speed has been set at 162. Read the rest of this entry »
