The all new 2009 BMW 7 Series features a variety of upgrades from the previous series. The exterior appears smoother and more refined than the previous model, which to some might seem boring, but to others classy. The 750i and extended wheelbase 750Li will both be fitted with a 400hp 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 with 450 ft-lbs of torque.

Two out of the top three car chase scenes of all time include the BMW MINI Cooper, according to a new poll conducted by Pearl & Dean. The poll recognized “The Italian Job” (1969) and “The Bourne Identity” as having the best car chase scenes in a feature film, both films feature MINI Coopers.

MINI Coopers are known for their go-kart-like handling and quick, fast paced maneuverability. Check out WebRidesTV’s new “Profiled” MINI Cooper Clubman S video, where it is matched against a go-kart.

Other car chases in the poll include the notorious car pile up in “The Blues Brothers”, “Ronin”, shot through the streets and tunnels of Paris and “Batman Begins”, with the Batmobile traversing the roofs of Gotham City. “Bullitt” was also featured, with Detective Frank Bullitt, played by Steve McQueen, chasing a 1968 Dodge Charger in a 1968 Ford Mustang around San Francisco.

Solar Prius

Looks like green just got a shade greener. Toyota motor corp has released plans to offer a hybrid electric prius with solar panels, becoming the first major automotive manufacturer to use solar power for a vehicle. Apparently, the plan is to incorporate the solar panels on the roof of the vehicle for their next gen premium Prius, which will power the cars air conditioning system. According to Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper, Toyota plans to use Kyocera solar panels on the vehicle.

There are also rumors stirring about a plug-in hybrid electric from Toyota, perhaps the next gen Prius will be the worlds first hybrid, plug-in, electric, solar powered vehicle. We’re hoping they give it a new nickname so that we don’t need 15 adjectives to describe their next line up. Here’s one, the SPHERE (Solar Powered Hybrid Electric Renewable Energy… uhh… yeah i lost myself on that one.) Anyone up for going back to gas now?

I’d be curious to see the next Prius (solar panels installed) and a regular Camry get on the green scale and find out which one takes more non-green energy to produce. Are these cars really green, or just a way to make consumers feel less guilty about our impact on the environment?

Yet again, Pagani pulls off another masterpiece. And they’re going to do it only 4 more times for this particular limited edition Pagani Zonda Cinque. Apparently, the projects inception was caused by a buyer in Hong Kong with a pallette for high end iron, or in this case a unique blend of titanium and carbon fibre.

All 5 have already been sold for somewhere north of 1 Million each, and unlike most cars, these appreciate over time, unless of course, they crash. And though this ride is street legal, an un-experienced driver is sure to get into trouble. This rocket ship has a 678 hp Mercedes Benz AMG engine and weighs less than 2700 lbs. That’s the equivelant of 1 pony for every 3.9 lbs! That’s like sticking an ICBM on the top of a roller skate.

Our hats are off to Pagani once again for making such a sexy vehicle. Hopefully one day we’ll get to do a little video in one of these. But until then, we can always dream.

And here it is, the latest security technology from Glasstek; a thief approaches and BAM, the car shoots thousands of shards of glass straight at the would be assailant. Or not…

An artist by the name of Luca Pancrazzi decided it would be a good idea to take a perfectly good Maserati Quattroporte and glue 1,700 lbs of shattered glass to it. The effect is actually quite cool looking, but ultimately pointless. You could have used a buick to achieve the same effect, but no, let’s do it to one of italy’s finest automobiles that costs around $100k. Perhaps there’s more to this story than meets the eye. We’re guessing a Maserati might have run over his first born child while it was in a stroller crossing the street. One could only guess at this after stumbling upon the display in front of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The name of the piece is “Pedestrian Pulverizer.”

So WebRiders, don’t say we didn’t warn you. Next time you’re in Russia, always look both ways before crossing the street.

Our spies caught up with the next gen 1 series mule and snapped some tasty photos for ya’ll to enjoy. One of the biggest changes to the one series will be a focus on more rear passenger space. From these photos you can already see a wider stance and more spacious rear seat room.

We’ve also heard rumors about changes to the tech inside the 1 series. We’re hoping they get a new iDrive system. Never the less, Europeans should expect a plethora of options from the next one series to include: hatchback, coupe, 4 door, awd, and convertible.

We used to think that the CL63 AMG Black edition was the sickest concoction that Mercedes Benz had ever come up with until we saw these spy photos of the new SL65 AMG Black edition.

If you’ve been watching the Formula 1 racing season this year, then you’d know that the new SL65 was the pace car for the races. And you’d also get a hint of things to come from Mercedes Benz. They seem to have a more performance oriented tone with their new offerings which is no doubt a response to added pressure from the likes of their European cousins, Audi and BMW.

So the reports are confirmed that Audi is dropping the V8 in its S4 for a supercharged V6 to put out close to 350 hp.

CAR Online has uncovered details of the S4 at today’s launch of the twin-clutch S5; the S4 shares this S-tronic transmission and its extremely fast 200ms gearchanges. The S-tronic gearbox weighs 313 lbs - around 85 lbs more than the six-speed manual. However, performance is better with the twin-clutch S-tronic and emissions are lower as well.

As mentioned the new S4 is powered by a 3.0 Litre Supercharged V6 which sends power to all 4 wheels via the quattro all wheel drive system. Top speed again is limited to 155 mph and expect 0-60 times to be just under 6 seconds.

The S4 kicks off at the Paris Auto Show later this year and will be in European show rooms early 09, expect it in the U.S. Q2 or Q3 of 2009 as well.

The Audi RS4 won’t be out until late 2009 or early 2010 and should have shift times even faster than the 200ms that the new S-tronic gear box is capable of. According to Carmagazine.co.uk they can get the shift times down to 140-150 ms.

Audi plans to have their S4 compete with the 335i and their RS4 compete with the M3. Being that they are releasing their new series just after BMW, we’re expecting that they will outperform both models with their upcoming releases.
