It could have been worse?  The Nurburgring is the hotspot to set laptimes and test out your new ride in Germany.  This would also lend itself to being the hotspot for a bunch of crashes.

This driver of this GT3 seems to have done a little too much overcorrecting.  But when they get it back right side up, it doesn’t look half bad.  That might be a GT3 I could afford, just slap on a little bondo here and some touch up paint there, that shiz will buff right out.

Here is a look at some crashes from the early days of the Nurburgring. Watch it, it is quite amusing.

The shockwave theory has been successfully demonstrated at the Mathematical Society of Traffic Flow in Japan.  This video clearly shows the shockwave progressing backwards at a steady rate because of human overreaction. Now it is their job to solve this traffic problem.  Currently the only solution was to make freeways larger and make on and off-ramps longer to allow more room for accellerating/braking. Maybe incorporating a system similar to Mercedes’ automatic braking system when you are on cruise control can be adapted to determine if the drivers brake input is a false alarm or necessary when you are on the freeway. Click Here for more information on the experiement. Simple things like talking on your phone while on the freeway can have a butterfly effect a few miles behind you.

This video of the week is one of our favorites, the GT5 Prologue video!  This game looks sweet, and we can’t wait for the game to come out!  Thanks to Scion for this Video of the Week!

I never imagined that being a serious auto enthusiast and a hard core gamer would ever amount to anything life altering, except carpal tunnel syndrome and continuously suspended driver’s license. Until the day I got a call from SCEA asking me if I would like to produce a documentary on the latest version in the Gran Turismo franchise, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Hmm, let’s think about it for a second, cars and games, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! Of course, I was stoked to be involved in the project and especially since the game was Gran Turismo. GT is my all time favorite racing game “simulator”, so much so that I had two custom full size driving cabinets built, so I could get the full on race experience. I was really excited to get over to Japan, capture the vibe of PDI and especially meet Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of GT. I had heard that he was a huge car fanatic and that we would get to film his collection.

Well after four months of filming and editing, the HD video documentary is finally complete. I believe that we were able to capture the passion, the ambition and the dedication of man who has revolutionized both the gaming and auto industry. Thus the documentary is aptly named “Beyond the Apex.” I do not want to give too much away but if you thought you knew what goes into creating a Gran Turismo game, think again. Check out the teaser trailer above, it’s a little sampler of the goodness that awaits you exclusively on the GT5 Prologue Blu-ray disc.

Enjoy the ride!

OK, so it’s not a Scion, but Scion’s big brother company is releasing a tasty new addition to the sport compact market, and we got a chance to check it out before it came out in mid-February!

Peep this video and get your fill of a sporty little hatchback from Toyota!

Looks like the 1 series has outmatched it’s Porsche rival and at a discount of over $5000. Just how long can Porsche continue to mark up their prices for their premium badging? Who knows, but we know one thing, the 1 Series is coming. And it’s going to be an Icon. Jeremy Clarkson recently reviewed that car and concluded his article with this quote:

” The fact of the matter is this. The 135 coupé is the best car BMW makes. I have no hesitation at all, then, in giving this long-awaited return to form the rare accolade of five stars.”
