When building a supercar, rarity is nearly as important as speed. It’s why the Chevrolet Corvette – arguably one of the best performance buys on the planet — simply won’t grab the same stares as a less capable Ferrari. Lexus seems to have understood that simple philosophy in crafting the LFA – a V10 beast that’s not the quickest kid on the playground, but is one of the most unique. Lexus is only creating 500 examples of its supercar, and the guys at EVO managed to get their hands on one for a genuine test drive. Hop the jump to have a look.
The Lexus LFA is something of a quandary. Yes, it’s as fast as a bottle rocket on steroids. It packs a number of engineering innovations, including more carbon fiber than should be legal and an LCD gauge display that makes Steve Jobs jealous. But it’s also insanely expensive, especially given the car’s performance. It’s true the V10 in the car was handed down straight from the car gods themselves, but in the end, the figures match up with comparable, cheaper metal from the Prancing Horse or the Raging Bull. What does Richard Hammond think? Hop the jump to find out. [Source: YouTube]

Check out the video after the jump. Evidently the boys at Motor Mavens know some people who know some people who were storing the Lexus LFA before the LA Auto Show. The crew got the chance to play with the cars in the warehouse a bit before they made their North American debut. While the video’s shot like some clandestine operation, our bet is Lexus and the Motor Mavens gang got together for the clip. Either way it’s an up close and personal look at one of the hottest rides at the show. Hop the jump for a look.
The last time a Japanese luxury manufacturer stepped up and cranked out an honest to the car gods supercar we were given the Acura NSX. It’s been nearly 20 years since that piece of ballistics hit our shores, and Lexus has just now taken up the banner with the LFA. Under the hood is a 4.8-liter V10 with 552 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque that revs to an S2000-rivaling 9,000 rpm. Don’t head over to your local dealer just yet, though. Lexus is only cranking out 500 of these suckers, and each and every one will cost you at least $375,000. Worth it? Looking at the videos after the jump, we have to say yes. Absolutely yes. Check out the gallery for an extra look.
