Howdy everyone! It’s Dr. VW checking in for the first Auto Adventures, the San Diego Auto Show. This little adventure is going to be presented in 6 parts, my 5 top picks of the show and 1 little summary of who didn’t make the cut. Hit the jump for the scoop…

Now, I know a lot of people are thinking this is going to be the same old line up of all the super hyped cars. But it’s not. In fact, my first entry on the show is going to be an upfront and rather blunt look at the cars that I’m not going to talk about because the proverbial dead horse has already been beaten.

First up, I’m going to ignore the Nissan GT-R. Yes its flashy and fast and whatnot, but it’s also overpriced, heavy, and such an overrated vehicle I’m just going to ignore it.

Next on my list of cars that just don’t warrant anymore of the spotlight is the Subaru WRX STI. It’s sporty, it handles like a dream, and if you want some seriously raw power at a relatively reasonable price, look no further. However the STI has been a mainstay for many years now amongst enthusiasts, and like a baseball team that goes to the world series year after year, I think it’s time to give someone else a shot.

Another car that I feel it’s time we all ignored is the Mustang. How many different incarnations are we going to see? It’s like going to Macy’s and trying on EVERY outfit with EVERY different piece of jewelry the place has to offer. Its a great car, there’s no denying it, but its getting tired. We KNOW you can drop a HUGE motor in there and make it run laps around other super cars. Get over it.

Finally, and I cannot believe the words are being typed on this page, but the VW GTI needs to be ignored. It’s fast, and it looks great. But the fact is that for the price there are better cars out there, and the amount of real tuning that even the above average home mechanic can do is limited.

That being said, over the next few days I’ll be bringing you guys 5 more installments in this Auto Adventure, and I’ll be talking about MY picks for Best of Show in sunny San Diego. Some will be specific cars, and others will be an overall kudos, but you’ll have to check back and read to find out! In the meantime, check out the Gallery. I’ll be updating it daily with more and more pictures for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to drop me a line on YOUR picks for the San Diego Auto Show by leaving a comment!
